A busy and creative place has emerged in the
past decade in west Knoxville. Walker
Academy provides a unique educational
environment based on creative learning
styles. Founded in 1998, this non-profit
private school is entering its eighth year
of making a significant impact on the lives
of over 700 young people and their
families. Building confidence and
self-esteem in all students is a tradition
at Walker Academy. Students learn to
identify their learning and thinking styles
in order to make wise educational and life
choices.
In December of 2000,
Walker Academy received accreditation
through the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools. This accreditation ensures
that students receive a top quality
education. Academy graduation requirements
include earning 22 of 24 possible Carnegie
units, meeting State of Tennessee curriculum
requirements, and completing two years of a
foreign language. Additionally, the Academy
has been accepted into the membership by
TSSAA. The 2005-2006 school year will begin
our participation in interscholastic
athletics, providing our students with
another area for skill and social
development.
We at Walker Academy
feel our school provides a much needed
innovative educational program where any
child can meet with academic success.
Our school colors are green and white.
Our mascot is the wolf. The wolf, currently
an endangered species, is noted for its
resiliency, independence, loyalty, and
survival skills.
Walker Academy is a 501(c)3
organization. Funding comes from student
tuitions, grants, and tax deductible private
contributions. The Academy accepts students
of any race, color, and national or ethnic
group.
